Impact
At Destination Greater Victoria, we embody sustainability at our core. Not only do we employ sustainable practices, but we ensure our practices are measurable and verified by obtaining third-party certifications. We are a Biosphere Certified Destination, which demonstrates our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals as quantified by the Responsible Tourism Institute. This certification is also encouraged for our member businesses, helping to spread the positive impact throughout our destination. DGV is also Certified through BC Green Business, meaning we operate in line with sustainability guidelines set out by Synergy Foundation, a world class expert on sustainability in business. We have also participated in our first year of the Global Destination Sustainability (GDS) Index, coming out with the second-highest score in North America. We aim to live in harmony with our community and environment to foster Victoria as not only a visitor’s paradise, but a local’s paradise, for years to come.

With these accomplishments under our belt, we are continuing to strive for continued improvement in the areas of social, environmental, and economic sustainability. We continue to learn from other changemakers in these areas, particularly through hosting our annual Impact Summit, a collaborative national dialogue about sustainability in travel and tourism.
