The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Museum of Newport Irish History
OUR EXPERIENCES
The Museum of Newport Irish History Interpretive Center explores Irish immigration to Newport from the Colonial era to today. As the city's largest ethnic group, the Irish have shaped its culture and history. Exhibits feature maps, photos, artifacts, and digital displays, with engaging docents on hand to answer questions and hear visitors’ stories.
The Museum also offers walking tours (via app), historic cemetery tours, and a long-running annual lecture series. Volunteers, including students, can get involved as docents, event helpers, or by assisting with the care of Newport’s historic 1828 Irish cemetery.
ABOUT US
The Museum of Newport Irish History is a 501c3 non-profit organization established in 1996 with a mission focused on local history. We tell the story of the Irish immigrants and their descendants in the Newport County area, conduct ongoing research into the rich history of “Irish Newport,” preserve articles and mementos relating to the local Irish immigrant experience, and facilitate research on Irish heritage, including assisting with local genealogical research. We are a volunteer-run, strong, membership-based organization. Our educational, cultural, and social program opportunities benefit our membership and interested members of the public of all backgrounds and walks of life.
OUR IMPACT
The Museum of Newport Irish History connects people through programs that celebrate Irish heritage, local history, and lifelong learning. Our seasonal Interpretive Center welcomes visitors of all backgrounds with exhibits and stories of Newport’s Irish immigrant experience.
Most events, including our popular Annual Lecture Series, are held at larger venues and live-streamed to reach a wider, more inclusive audience. Year-round educational and cultural offerings foster community, accessibility, and meaningful engagement
