Isla Venado Aquacultural Cooperative

Isla Venado Aquacultural Cooperative

Experience sustainable aquaculture with warm hospitality, guided tours, hiking, seabird watching, and kayaking, all while supporting local communities.

OUR EXPERIENCES
We are a cooperative of dedicated shrimp and snapper farmers on Venado Island with a mission that goes beyond aquaculture. We’re committed to sustainable practices that respect and enhance the island’s natural resources through innovative, nature-based solutions. In addition to our farming efforts, we provide warm hospitality with our lodging services and offer a range of experiences to explore the island, including guided tours, hiking adventures, seabird excursions, and kayaking. We’re also proud to supply live bait to local fishermen within the Responsible Fishing Marine Areas of the Gulf of Nicoya, supporting sustainable fishing practices in our community.

ABOUT US
Our mission is to create a nationwide cooperative of 100% sustainable, artisanal fish farmers. We envision generating meaningful employment opportunities through nature-based solutions that honor and protect our environment, safeguarding the diverse flora and fauna that define our communities.

OUR IMPACT
Our project supports over 1,200 families living on Isla Venado, all of whom have relied on artisanal fishing for over 100 years. For the past eight years, our cooperative has been implementing more sustainable practices through mariculture and community-based rural tourism, providing new opportunities for our members, fishermen, and neighbors on the island.
