Friends Of Kamalani and Lydgate Park
OUR EXPERIENCES
The Friends of Kamalani & Lydgate Park is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Lydgate State Park. Each year, we come together as a volunteer community to observe National Make a Difference Day in late October, and Earth Day in the Spring. We also work together every Saturday to clean the beach at Morgan’s Pond.
ABOUT US
We are group of volunteers who come together weekly to preserve and maintain a park we all love. We offer both visitors and locals a chance to get involved in taking care of our community. We are a local opportunity to give just 2 hours, make new friends, meet old friends, and do something positive for our island of Kauai.
OUR IMPACT
Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park positively impacts the community by preserving the cultural and environmental integrity of Lydgate Beach Park. Through our weekly beach cleanups, organized by dedicated local residents, we help maintain and enhance the park in collaboration with the County of Kauai’s Department of Parks and Recreation. Our efforts foster a deeper connection between visitors and the island, offering a hands-on way to give back to the land and its people. By involving volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, including partnerships with local youth organizations, we aim to create a lasting impact on both the environment and the community, promoting respect and appreciation for Kauai’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

What accommodations do you make for people living with disabilities?
Our group has created ramps to the beach instead of just steps allowing people with disabilities to better access the beach. We've also created "beach furniture" and benches that give people a place to rest once they have accessed the beach. This helps is getting to the ground and back up is an issue. We can tailor our work duties for small children and those with physical limitations.
