The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Rodakas
OUR EXPERIENCES
We offer several activities, including a historical walking tour through the village, traditional stone-building, and weaving workshops. Our Archive of Oral History and Photographic Archive of the Margarites Community constitute a memory deposit for the younger generation and any visitors.
ABOUT US
Rodkas was created in 2017 by a group of residents of the village of Margarites in Rethymnon with the aim of recording the life histories of the oldest residents of the Community. The Community of Margarites is the connecting thread of Rodakas. The history, the people, the social/demographic, institutional, and cultural changes that emerge through the narratives of its inhabitants were the first and most important common ground and interest of the group; they gave motivation and provided the inspiration for its creation and aims.
OUR IMPACT
Since 2019, we have organized numerous stone-building and weaving workshops, educating more than 200 people in these traditional crafts and restoring several stone walls within the community of Margarites.
We have also collected over 100 interviews with past and present residents of the village, along with an extensive photo archive, with the goal of creating an open oral history archive for the community.
Through these activities, visitors are invited to actively engage with the village, gaining hands-on experience while learning about the history, traditions, and community spirit of Margarites.
