The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Organización APRORENANG
OUR EXPERIENCES
We focus on promoting various attractions such as white sand beaches, cultural dances, local crafts, and the rich gastronomy of the area. Additionally, we highlight unique features like Escudo de Veraguas Island, shark sightings, Damani Lake, Jugli Canal Quenani Tobori, and our turtle conservation workshop.
Our organization operates as a non-profit and primarily arranges group trips to the community due to its remote location. While we haven't yet implemented volunteer initiatives in community tourism, we are dedicated to fostering sustainable tourism practices.
ABOUT US
Río Caña is a community that has preserved its traditions, especially its dances and gastronomy, the latter based on fish, tubers, and vegetables grown by the community itself.
The community has invaluable attractions, such as Isla Escudo de Veraguas, home of the pygmy sloth, a species endemic to this island, as well as Playa Toro, Playa Uvas, Isla Tiburón, and the Damani Lagoon, a designated RAMSAR site.
OUR IMPACT
The community residents work in areas such as cooking, accommodation, transportation, and guiding. Beyond supporting their families, the income generated also aids the Parent-Teacher Association of the Río Caña community, which in turn supports school activities.
Environmentally, reforestation workshops and practical reforestation activities have been conducted with the community. Furthermore, the community is actively involved in a turtle conservation project. Río Caña remains at the forefront of mangrove, lake, beach, and forest conservation and sustainability efforts in the area.
