The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Bike Pittsburgh
OUR EXPERIENCES
We work on behalf of the Pittsburgh community to make the city safe, accessible, and friendly for biking and walking. We advocate for safer infrastructure projects, produce educational resources like The Official Pittsburgh Bike Map, host the biggest bike ride in the City (PedalPGH), and produce a free community event series that opens miles of car-free streets for biking and walking (OpenStreetsPGH). We also celebrate and recognize local leaders in active transportation at events like the BikeFest Party and Annual Member Meeting, and support everyday riders through programming such as Bike to Work Day, group rides, and commuter support initiatives. Our goal is to build a stronger, more connected Pittsburgh through inclusive, community-powered events and advocacy.
ABOUT US
BikePGH is transforming our streets to make biking and walking commonplace in order to improve our quality of life and reduce the harmful effects of car dependence in our communities.
We envision a Pittsburgh where people can thrive without needing to own a car – making Pittsburgh a world class leader in clean, affordable, and convenient transportation.
We believe that people need realistic options in order to change their transportation habits away from single occupancy car trips and toward biking, walking, and transit. We focus on three key areas to achieve this shift: Advocacy, Education, and Community (events).
OUR IMPACT
Advocacy: We advocate for safe, car-free transportation options via infrastructure like bike lanes and safer sidewalks, and public policy.
Community: We bring people together from all parts of the city to experience riding and walking, engage with new ideas, and show support for car-free transportation through major events like OpenStreetsPGH and PedalPGH.
Education: We educate in order to give people the tools they need to safely experience the city by foot and by bike. We distribute hundreds of free bike lights and helmets annually, host classes, create how-to videos, and produce digital and printed resources like The Official Pittsburgh Bike Map.
