Explore the Leymebamba Museum, home to 219 Chachapoya and Chachapoya-Inca mummies rescued from the mysterious mausoleums of Laguna de los Cóndores. With over 2,000 artifacts and traditional crafts, the museum blends ancestral heritage with modern architecture. Wander the mystical cloud forests surrounding the mausoleums. Then, journey into the Yarina basin within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where local communities protect over 527 species, including taricaya turtles and pink dolphins. Experience reflective rivers, lush flooded forests, jungle excursions, night explorations, and witness the birth of river turtles. The Leymebamba Community Tourism Association, with 57 members, promotes sustainable development and shares the ancient Chachapoyas heritage. Leymebamba, famed for over 200 naturally preserved mummies at Laguna de los Cóndores, preserves cultural remains from the Chachapoyas and Inca civilizations, offering visitors an authentic experience of northern Peru’s rich history.

The Leymebamba Community Tourism Association has been actively promoting sustainable initiatives that highlight both the cultural and natural heritage of the region. Its programs are designed to preserve and share the rich legacy of the Chachapoyas culture, showcasing traditional agricultural practices, local cuisine, and artisanal dairy production. Through these activities, visitors gain a deep understanding of the community’s identity and ancestral knowledge.

On the natural side, the organization emphasizes the responsible visitation and protection of Laguna de los Cóndores, a remarkable site where the famous Chachapoyas mummies were discovered. The journey to the lagoon allows travelers to experience the region’s unique landscapes while learning about Chachapoyas traditions in an authentic setting.
