ABOUT US
Mission: Developing and supporting Jordan’s street art and hip hop community as an artistic catalyst for social change
Vision: society that celebrates and engages in diverse artistic expressions of the human experience
Values: Peace, love, unity, and having fun!
Underground Amman is a hip hop artist collective that highlights and contextualizes youth street art and hip hop cultures in Jordan by telling the stories and celebrating the diverse expressions that are often forced underground by traditional cultural expectations. We are a community of artists who seek to develop and support Jordan’s street art and hip hop community as an artistic catalyst for social change, through street art walking tours, hip hop jams, gallery exhibitions, and other creative outlets.
OUR IMPACT
Hip hop is a community-centred culture that promotes the positive social values of peace, love, unity, and having fun. By inviting guests on our tour we are breaking down the stereotypes and misunderstandings of hip hop culture (as dangerous or immoral) and also inviting international guests to engage with a side of Arab culture that they are not expecting as hip hop in the Arab world is still not widely recognized or accepted. We reinvest 10% of our total revenue as well as 10% of our staff time into community events and workshops, art supplies, competitions, and exhibits to further promote and develop the hip hop culture in Jordan. As the tour has grown, we have been able to employ Jordanian hip hop artists in their field again, after having left the art form for lack of employment opportunities.
