On this overnight trip we will go to the periphery of Mompox. You will have a traditional lunch by the mighty Magdalena River, one of Colombia’s most important rivers, and the one that once brought huge prosperity to Mompox. Take a bike tour through town where you will get to know its many churches, plazas and charming streets. In the evening, you will have a music experience called “Bailes Cantados” (Sung dances) with the community leader Don Abundio and his collective of traditional artists, which strives to preserve ancestral culture. The services, presentations and products related to traditional music generate opportunities for children and youth. Here, you will have a behind the scenes experience to witness the components of a carnival such as masks and costumes as well as having a complete demonstration of dances, rhythms and chants. In your free time you can walk around town, go birdwatching or even visit the Pijiño Wetlands to enjoy the beauty and biodiversity of this breathtaking location.

Impulse Travel partnered with Tourism Cares on a Meaningful Travel Summit with Colombia in November, 2021 and operated as our DMC for the program, bringing our attendees to a handful of local experiences represented on this Map. They were also recipients of a grant from Tourism Cares and Tauck Ritzau Innovative Philanthropy. ProColombia partnered with Tourism Cares on a Meaningful Travel Map in advance of the Tourism Cares with Colombia Meaningful Travel Summit in November, 2021. The pins on the Colombia Map represent community tourism experiences around the country, offered by receptive operators who design their tours for local impact, economic benefit for communities, and to reflect the richness of the experiences you can have traveling throughout Colombia. Their work, and the organizations they support, diffuse the economic benefits of tourism and support sustainable tourism growth in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
