ABOUT US
The mission of the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA) is to preserve stories that inspire through presenting the complex experiences, struggles, and contributions of African Americans with an emphasis on Virginians, by collecting, interpreting and presenting historical and cultural exhibitions, programming and artifacts. Further, the Black History Museum aspires to provide, develop, and partner, in the creation of educational resources, services, and opportunities to promote and advance understanding of the history and culture of black people and African Americans in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

OUR IMPACT
BHMVA is a safe space for people to learn about Virginia's Black history as part of America's inclusive and diverse history. The museum presents exhibitions and offers exhibition related programs to enhance the visitor experience. Community programs, educational programs and community events are also part of museum offerings. BHMVA creates opportunities for people to have an immersive experience through touch screen exhibitions and hands on children's activities.

BHMVA does not currently offer languages other than English.

When are you open?
Wednesday - Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM; by appointment for group tours is available.

What accommodations do you make for people living with disabilities?
BHVMA has an elevator for access to 2nd floor exhibitions. Building entry has a ramp and there is handicap parking available.
