Monkeybiz South Africa
OUR EXPERIENCES
Monkeybiz is a non-profit organization that creates one-of-a-kind, hand-beaded artworks crafted by over 200 women from under-resourced communities in South Africa. Visitors can experience the vibrant world of Monkeybiz by exploring our collection of unique beaded animals, dolls, and home décor, with each piece telling a story of creativity and empowerment. While we do not offer formal volunteering opportunities, travelers can engage with our mission by visiting our studio, learning about our artists, and supporting sustainable livelihoods through their purchases.
ABOUT US
Monkeybiz is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women in under-resourced communities through the traditional art of beadwork. By providing a sustainable source of income rather than formal employment, we celebrate the creativity of our 200+ artists, whose unique, handcrafted beaded artworks have gained international recognition. Our mission is to preserve South Africa’s rich beadwork heritage while fostering economic empowerment, creativity, and dignity for our artists.
OUR IMPACT
Monkeybiz creates a meaningful social impact by empowering over 200 women in under-resourced communities with a sustainable source of income through their beadwork. By valuing creativity over mass production, we preserve South Africa’s rich beadwork heritage while fostering economic independence and dignity for our artists. Environmentally, we embrace slow production methods, using upcycled materials where possible and ensuring each piece is handmade with care. As a women-led organization, we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing an accessible platform for artists of all backgrounds to showcase their talents and uplift their communities.
