Museum of Scottish Lighthouses

Museum of Scottish Lighthouses

Explore a unique collection of lighthouse lenses, guided tours of a castle and lighthouse, and engaging local stories in a captivating coastal setting.

OUR EXPERIENCES
We hold the national collection of lighthouse lenses and objects, and the museum holds many exhibitions of those collections, including lenses that weigh up to 3 tonnes. We also have a castle and a lighthouse, which we take our visitors to on a guided tour. Both the castle and the lighthouse are covered by one ticket. It's a unique and fabulous experience for visitors.

ABOUT US
The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses will be a sustainable and effective contributor to the local and regional economy and respected as a high-quality Scottish museum and visitor centre, bringing to life, as a focal point, the stories of Scottish engineers, Scottish lighthouses, the lightkeepers and their families, and the communities in which they lived and worked.

OUR IMPACT
The museum castle and lighthouse make a significant difference to the community in their operation. I have recently carried out an economic benefit survey, and we have added £1.6 million to the area and are therefore very important, especially in the face of other industries in our area shrinking. We provide opportunities for 3rd sector organisations, including SAMH, VSA, Job Centre, and many others. We also provide educational opportunities to all local schools, colleges, and universities.
