ABOUT US
The Epimenides Cultural Society of Panormo, founded in 1998, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving local heritage, fostering cultural dialogue, and promoting sustainable development. Based in a restored carob mill, we host exhibitions, concerts, lectures, and educational programs that celebrate the history, arts, and traditions of the region.

A key part of our mission is the revival of carob tree culture. We support scientific research, organize community initiatives, and promote innovative carob-based products, aiming to re-establish the carob as a symbol of sustainable Mediterranean living. Through our work, we bridge tradition and innovation—connecting local identity with global awareness.

OUR IMPACT
The Epimenides Cultural Society of Panormo is a non-profit organization offering travelers a unique blend of cultural and ecological experiences rooted in heritage and sustainability. Located in the historic Carob Mill Arts & Cultural Centre—a restored industrial monument in Crete—Epimenides hosts European performing arts events, community programs, international conferences, and creative tourism activities.

What sets Epimenides apart is its pioneering work in reviving the legacy of the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua), a resilient Mediterranean species known for its environmental and cultural value. Through gastronomy, storytelling, education, and guided tours, visitors explore the carob’s role in both tradition and sustainable innovation.

As a partner in the "Crete, European Region of Gastronomy 2026" initiative, Epimenides promotes healthy, eco-friendly food habits, especially among younger generations, by connecting Cretan gastronomy with environmental awareness. The Carob Mill now functions as a living heritage site, inspiring meaningful connections between visitors and place—highlighting Crete as a destination of knowledge, sustainability, and cultural engagement.
