The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Rose Island Lighthouse & Fort Hamilton Trust
OUR EXPERIENCES
We offer daily tours for groups--either private tours or arriving on the hop-on hop-off Jamestown Newport ferry. We also offer unique overnight experiences in our historic lighthouse and 1799 Fort Hamilton Barracks. We welcome volunteer groups for day-long hands-on project experiences in historic preservation and wildlife conservation and individuals to volunteer with us all season long on gardening, landscaping, hospitality and education.
ABOUT US
Our mission is to preserve the history and environment of Rose Island and share it with the public. We are stewards of the amazing Rose Island in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island and invite you to come experience it. We have many layers of history, including uses by Indigenous people, British, French, and American occupation during the time of the American Revolution, and usage during World Wars 1 and 2 as part of the Newport Naval Torpedo Station. Most of the island is now also a wildlife refuge and provides important habitat for coastal shorebirds and many species of migratory songbirds.
OUR IMPACT
We are committed to sharing learning experiences based on Rose Island's history and environment. We are also an off-grid operation that runs only on collected rainwater and primarily from solar electricity. Any tour of Rose Island is an opportunity for us to show off our sustainable systems to the visiting public to educate and inspire.
