Haida Style Expeditions
OUR EXPERIENCES
We offer marine expeditions into Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, interpreting thousands of years of Haida cultural history, knowledge and village sites. Each summer we visit the following villages: K'uuna (Skedans) & T’aanuu- This day tour takes you to the Haida villages of Ḵ’uuna Llnagaay (commonly known as Skedans) and T’aanuu Llnagaay, for walks through two distinctive village sites.
Along the way, our guides will incorporate storytelling, songs and local history, giving guests a glimpse into our heritage and how we protect our land and waters. G̱andll K’in Gwaay.yaay & Hlk'yah G̱awG̱a (Windy Bay) This area is symbolic to Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage site because it was here, in 1985, that the Haida people took a stand against clear cut logging practices in South Moresby. This stand resulted in the creation of Gwaii Haanas, and the erection of the Legacy Pole. You will also make a stop at G̱andll K’in Gwaay.yaay (Hotsprings Island) which commonly provided food to the Haida people, as well as warm waters to comfort, nourish and heal the body and soul. Guests will have the opportunity to bathe in the springs or explore the waters of G̱andll K’in and the unique intertidal environment.
SG̱ang Gwaay (Ninstints) This day tour takes you to SGang Gwaay Llnagaay (Ninstints) on Anthony Island. Here, we will walk through the ancient village and UNESCO World Heritage Site, learning about Haida lineages and lifestyles. Ts'aahl (West Coast Tour) On this tour, we will travel west from Queen Charlotte through the Skidegate Narrows, scanning the shorelines for taan (black bear). With options to disembark from the boat at Jiina.nga Gandlaay (Government Creek) to explore old growth, check for Tufted Puffins at Marble Island, and visit our family village of Ts'aahl, the home of K'aa Gwaay (Five Fin Sea Monster).
ABOUT US
We have built Haida Style Expeditions on a system of values, with the art of exchange at its core. This value is central to our culture, and we believe it runs from the traditional potlatch system through to how we conduct our business. In giving back, we are helping to improve tourism on Haida Gwaii. We work with a local network of operators, and we will happily provide solid recommendations on where to stay, dine, and which sites to visit while on island. We work hard to make your trip a memorable one, helping you to enjoy as many opportunities as possible while on island. Our goal is to have you walk away having learned a story about our people and these lands we have called home for thousands of years.
OUR IMPACT
As the only Haida owned and operated tourism business offering tours into Gwaii Haanas, we are uniquely positioned to offer guests an immersive experience, guided by Haida knowledge-keepers.
