The Global Meaningful Travel Map
The Lost Valley
OUR EXPERIENCES
The Lost Valley is designated as a Special Area of Conservation. Its pristine high nature value landscapes and seascape are untouched by the modern world. The valley offers a unique window into Irish cultural heritage. The population of the locality on the 1841 census was 747 people, just 13 people now remain in this same area, the direct result of wholesale eviction during the Great Irish Famine. We take a walk through its many famine relics, the torn down walls of their cottages and the multitude of potato beds they left behind. Today The Lost Valley echo's the silence of its banished people and uniquely encapsulates Irelands timeless beauty and unspoiled wilderness.
ABOUT US
Our mission is to protect this valley for future generations and to share its cultural heritage. We constructed a green road around the valley and we guide groups of visitors along this trail. This ensures the protection of the sensitive eco-systems and minimizes disruption of wildlife while allowing the traditional sheep farming that created and sustains these ecosystems to continue.
OUR IMPACT
As stated above we protect and share the nature and the cultural heritage. Perhaps the best way to access our impact is to read the reviews left by our visitors on Trip Advisor, the link is available on our website www.thelostvalley.ie
