The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Camp Denali
OUR EXPERIENCES
Since 1952, and after three generations of family ownership, Camp Denali provides active learning experiences and authentic Alaskan hospitality in the wilderness heart of Denali National Park. Nineteen tastefully appointed, rusticly elegant guest cabins and daily naturalist-led hikes immerse you in the wilderness and wildlife of the Park’s magnificent sub-arctic landscapes. Camp Denali remains what our founders envisioned over 70 years ago, a place that doesn’t insulate you from the wilderness you came to explore.
ABOUT US
Camp Denali's mission is to provide active learning experiences and to foster stewardship of the natural world through a tradition of community, excellence, and place. Founded in 1952, Camp Denali was envisioned to be a place where visitors could linger, learn, immerse themselves in the wilderness of Denali, and enjoy the company of fellow travelers. On its third generation of owner-operators, Camp Denali's longevity has earned it some unique rights of access into Denali's backcountry for guided day hiking, birding, wildlife viewing and photography. Our staff of about 30 live, work and play on-site each summer, welcoming each session’s guests into our summer home. A long-held commitment to staying small and maintaining a light footprint on the land has led to continual refinement of our infrastructure, energy systems, food supply and purchasing.
OUR IMPACT
Most notable is Camp Denali's commitment to stewardship and sustainability. 100% of the animal proteins prepared by our kitchen staff comes from Alaska and nearly 50% of all food products are Alaskan. An on-site, non-electric greenhouse and gardens produce nearly all of our salad greens for guests and staff throughout each summer. A 90 kilowatt photovoltaic array and nickel-iron battery bank has for the last three summers supplied upwards of 95% of our electric demand, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. To further offset our carbon footprint, each summer, our company matches individual guest donations to a local carbon reduction fund that provides home weatherization to low-income households.
