OUR EXPERIENCES
Kapawi Ecolodge is a pioneer indigenous community ecotourism enterprise in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador. Since 1996, Kapawi offers conscious and responsible travelers the opportunity to engage in authentic cultural experiences, spend time in a remote natural rainforest setting, while directly supporting the conservation of the Amazon Rainforest, the preservation of the Achuar indigenous culture, and sustainable development.

ABOUT US
Thirty years ago, several Achuar indigenous communities developed ecotourism as an innovative alternative to extractive industries in the Amazon Rainforest. Kapawi Ecolodge planted the seed for a new territorial and development vision, where travel must protect nature, preserve culture, and become a strategic tool for achieving local sustainable development goals.

OUR IMPACT
Kapawi Ecolodge gives value to protecting the natural habitat. Wildlife and nature-based travel has protected key emblematic species of fauna, such as pink river dolphins, and jaguars.

The impact of Kapawi Ecolodge on conservation has expanded to a larger region of 10 neighbouring indigenous communities and an area of influence of over 60,000 hectares along four rivers.

Kapawi’s benefits include local job creation, participation, and empowerment. Kapawi Ecolodge and travel represent the region’s main economic activity. Kapawi’s presence also helped introduce pioneer environmental standards that promote the reduction of the human footprint in energy, waste, and water.

Kapawi serves a sustainable development mission, and represents a hub to connect with conservation and other supporting organizations, which implement several complementary conservation and sustainable development efforts, ranging from solar energy for households and electric river transportation, water treatment, fish farming, reforestation, wildlife monitoring, native vanilla production, and other community development needs.
