The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Mysticism at Apu Ausangate
OUR EXPERIENCES
The Mirador de Cuyuni Ausangatec Hatun Pukaran – Mirador Cuyuni Community Enterprise is made up of 12 families offering immersive experiences that blend nature, culture, and living traditions. Located at the entrance to the Ausangate Route, visitors can enjoy breathtaking Andean landscapes, cultural demonstrations, and local cuisine in a sacred natural setting. Travelers participate in ancestral rope-braiding using soft llama fiber, savor a buffet of Novo Andean cuisine, and share in the customs and knowledge of the Cuyuni community—all surrounded by the majestic Ausangate snow-capped mountain.
ABOUT US
Our community enterprise works to preserve and celebrate the cultural and natural heritage of Cuyuni, ensuring that our traditions, environment, and sacred spaces are protected for future generations.
OUR IMPACT
The community of Cuyuni, located at 4,185 meters above sea level, serves as the gateway to the Ausangate Tourist Route and a living example of harmony between people and nature. Through tourism, we promote the preservation of Andean cultural heritage, rituals, and ancestral practices that connect our people to the land. Visitors learn about responsible land management and sustainability through initiatives like the Pine Forest reforestation project, begun over 20 years ago. This effort not only restores native vegetation but also provides natural resources for the community.
Our experiences emphasize reciprocity and respect for Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the sacred Apu Ausangate, fostering intercultural understanding and environmental awareness. By participating in local rituals, blessings, and traditional meals such as the huatia, travelers contribute directly to the conservation of cultural and natural heritage in the Peruvian Andes.
