The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Wearsos
OUR EXPERIENCES
Wearsos is a social enterprise that champions sustainability and social impact. By upcycling retired materials into fashion accessories, we create opportunities for economic activation in rural Costa Rica. Travelers can participate in a hands-on experience at our workshop, creating their own luggage tag alongside women artisans while learning about circular design, followed by a visit to the Mollejones community where local families disarm the airline seat leather we use for upcycling – offering meaningful cultural exchange while supporting local livelihoods.
ABOUT US
Wearsos is a social enterprise in rural Costa Rica that blends circular economy with community empowerment. Through upcycling, artisan partnerships, and immersive educational tourism, we create dignified livelihoods for rural women, preserving cultural heritage, and connecting travelers to place-based experiences rooted in sustainability and local impact.
Wearsos is an investee of the UnTours Foundation through its Reset Tourism Fund, which provides accessible investment capital to inclusive, sustainable, and community-enhancing tourism businesses.
IMPACT
Wearsos delivers community-driven impact by turning discarded materials into opportunity, and tourism into empowerment. Our circular economy model has upcycled over 1,000+ retired airline seat covers, generating dignified income for more than 40 rural and Indigenous women artisans totalling over $120k+ in wages in just over 2 years. Through community tourism and hands-on workshops, Wearsos channels revenue directly into local households while strengthening community-led economies. Cultural heritage is actively preserved through collaborations with Boruca weavers, sustaining ancestral textile and natural dye traditions. Environmentally, we divert retired materials from landfills while showcasing low-impact production models. As an educational hub, we have engaged over 1,000+ students globally in real-world learning on circularity, sustainability, and ethical production. The result is a regenerative model that transforms visitor experiences and creates a positive impact across rural Costa Rica.
