The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Timorogo
OUR EXPERIENCES
We offer adventures such as hiking, diving in the mangroves, visits to nearby caves, and dolphin and whale watching. Guided by certified guides, our experiences blend knowledge of nature with the ancestral beliefs of the Ngäbe indigenous community.
Our organization also features a restaurant specializing in the traditional flavors of the Ngäbe culture. Visitors can participate in gastronomic and handicraft workshops, creating a rich and immersive cultural experience.
ABOUT US
Mission:
Utilize tourism as an alternative source of income to improve the quality of life of the members of our organization. Members engage in various activities, including craftsmanship, dressmaking workshops, coconut bread making, dance, tourist guiding, and cooking in the community restaurant. We aim to promote these activities while fostering local culture and sustainable development in our community.
Vision:
Become a leading organization in conservation in the community of Bahía Honda in the Isla Bastimentos Marine National Park. We strive to involve the youth, women, and men of our community in sustainable tourism activities.
The TIMOROGO project unites several families in managing the restaurant, artisanal production, and tours within Isla Bastimentos Marine National Park. Highlights include the Sloth Trail, one of the islands’ main attractions, and the Trail to the Bastimentos Lagoon.
OUR IMPACT
The TIMOROGO project actively engages in conservation efforts, such as reforesting mangroves and endemic tree species, and collaborates with local organizations to clean beaches and lagoons. Environmental awareness workshops are offered to children and young people in the community.
A key focus of the project is including young people in tourism activities, offering them employment opportunities within the community and reducing the need to migrate elsewhere for work.
