OUR EXPERIENCES
Tranquilo Bay is a boutique island lodge at the intersection of the rainforest, the Caribbean Sea, and the Panamanian people. Our team specializes in curated adventure within a private conservation preserve (200 rainforest acres + about one kilometer of Caribbean coastline), an adjacent marine national park and the province of Bocas del Toro.

ABOUT US
We have three key characteristics we use as an umbrella underneath which all of our practices fall to support our mission: steward, serve, and sustain. These characteristics create a three-step filter under which to process our decisions. These filters serve as scaffolding to help us make the next right choice and support our long-term vision.

Steward: to use wisely and creatively the gifts that have been bestowed upon us. We know that it was grace that led us to find this piece of land to create Tranquilo Bay. We appreciate it. It is our responsibility to actively support the earth and her inhabitants and work with the local community to do the same. Conservation is the bare minimum. What we are hoping to do is more - regeneration. We want to restore our local systems to help the earth move to an improved state rather than maintain the status quo.

Serve: to generously perform acts that meet the needs of those around us. We serve our community, employees, and guests by listening with an open heart and responding creatively. We understand that the choices we make in the way we do business affect all stakeholders; thus, we must support each of them in the actions we take.

Sustain: to support something or keep it going. We must consider the long-term effect of our actions. We should always be a force for good. We want this vibrant piece of the jungle to remain as such for future generations.

OUR IMPACT
Each year, we meticulously document our impact on Bocas del Toro and Panama. Our preferred metric, Community Dollar Flow, vividly illustrates our contributions to both our local community and our country as a whole. Community Dollar Flow quantifies all the funds that circulate within a community because of a specific company. In our case, it encompasses labor and benefits, purchases from businesses and individuals within a 100 km radius of Tranquilo Bay, staff gratuities, donations made within the same distance, volunteer hours contributed, and ITBMS paid by guests in a given month. Once we compile data from each category, we express the total as a percentage of the company's overall expenses. During peak seasons, this figure can exceed 100% of the company's expenses within the immediate community due to broader inputs. While we haven't reached that threshold yet, we continuously strive for improvement. In 2023, our annual average stood at 84%.
