Ferticlay

Experience sustainable pottery classes that utilize local clay and food waste, while supporting a mission to empower individuals with disabilities.

OUR EXPERIENCES
We conduct sustainable pottery classes that educate people about Singapore's local clay and how to utilise food waste to naturally strengthen it. We also sell our handmade and 3D printed clay items and DIY clay kits for people to create in their own time.

ABOUT US
Ferticlay rescues and upcycles both unavoidable food waste and local clay to turn them into homeware and building materials. When our products reach the end of their life cycle, they can safely return back to earth within less than a year and/or be returned to us to be pulverised and recycled again into new products so the cycle never stops. Our social mission to gainfully employ and up-skill persons with disabilities and special needs also enables us to operationalise without a heavy reliance on automation and energy-intensive technologies, ensuring we mindfully give back to both our fellow people and the planet.

OUR IMPACT
We are committed to hiring persons with special needs and disabilities as part of our team. We hope to train such individuals who may find it difficult to secure employment past their Special Education schooling and integrate them to the wider public through assisting in workshops. Being a pottery-influenced company, we naturally work a lot with our hands and have various operational tasks to do. This allows for a therapeutic work environment that nurtures both our hard and soft skills and effectively allows for cognitive regulation.

What accommodations do you make for people living with disabilities?
We have staff who are also living with various disabilities and special needs, so there would be people who resonate with and can guide them. We also have both audio and visual aids that go along with the making process of the clay, and we ensure to have enough manpower on site to guide those who may need more help. Unfortunately, our studio is located on level 2 of our building and as it is an old building, there is no elevator. There are, however, plans made by the building management to install a lift later this year.
