The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Muhaan
OUR EXPERIENCES
Muhaan offers immersive, community-led tourism experiences rooted in the knowledge systems, oral narratives, and lived cultures of Indigenous and rural communities across the Eastern Himalayas. Travelers can participate in learning programs co-created with local knowledge keepers, deep cultural immersion journeys, and community-hosted festivals that foster meaningful exchange, storytelling, and sustainable development.
ABOUT US
Muhaan is a community-rooted platform that fosters sustainable tourism, cultural conservation, and rural entrepreneurship across the Eastern Himalayas. Our mission is to build meaningful partnerships between communities and travelers through immersive experiences that honor Indigenous knowledge, support local livelihoods, and promote zero-waste, community-led tourism models. We envision tourism as a tool for regeneration—of cultures, ecologies, and collective futures.
OUR IMPACT
Muhaan creates long-term, place-based impact by centering Indigenous and rural communities in the tourism economy.
We co-create zero-waste, community-led festivals such as Kholeydai and Tuthungkamu that revive traditional practices, foster intergenerational knowledge exchange, and empower youth through leadership and cultural expression. Kholeydai has become a replicable model for community-based tourism in the Eastern Himalayas.
All our programs integrate zero-waste principles, local sourcing, and low-impact design. Our festivals are recognized for their minimal environmental footprint. Initiatives like Living with the Forests engage youth and forest-fringe communities in conservation and ecological restoration.
Our experiential programs—Living with the Forests, Budding Roots, and The Essentialism of the Totos—offer immersive learning rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems, oral histories, and sustainable living practices.
Muhaan operates on a participatory, community-first model. Revenue from consulting, experiential programs, and festival curation is reinvested in local entrepreneurship, youth training, and community capacity building—ensuring shared value and long-term sustainability.
