A carefully curated collection of poetry, photographs, and stories traces his path from his formative years in Bellaghy to becoming one of Ireland’s greatest writers. Let Heaney’s distinctive voice guide you through the exhibition as you explore the people and places that inspired him. Atmospheric video projections and touchscreen displays complement precious items donated by the Heaney family.

Located between Heaney’s childhood homes at Mossbawn and The Wood, and just a few hundred yards from St. Mary’s Church, Bellaghy—his chosen final resting place—HomePlace sits at the heart of the landscape that inspired much of his poetry. Here, you can feel the warmth of Heaney’s connections to the local people and places, immersing yourself in the literature of a Nobel Laureate.

Seamus Heaney HomePlace is committed to ensuring that all visitors, regardless of ability, can fully engage with our offerings. We have implemented extensive accessibility features, including disabled toilets, wheelchair access, lifts, ramps, automatic doors, braille, audio devices, and designated blue badge parking spaces. These measures ensure that everyone can experience our exhibitions and events without barriers.

Beyond physical accessibility, we strive to create a welcoming environment where all visitors feel represented and included. We continuously review and enhance our practices to uphold the highest standards of inclusion.

What languages do you offer your services in?
All of our services are provided in English, but we can arrange for translators if needed. Our guide brochures are available in English, Irish, French, Spanish, and German

When are you open?
Our opening hours are Monday to Saturday: 10am - 5pm, and Sunday: 1pm - 5pm. We are closed on Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day (December 24th - 26th), and New Year's Day.

What accommodations do you make for people living with disabilities?
HomePlace is fully accessible to all visitors. We offer two parking spaces for Blue Badge holders in the top car park on Main Street, and four more spaces at the Gulladuff Road car park. The venue spans two floors, accessible via stairs or lift, with accessible toilets on both levels.

We provide audio devices for the visually impaired, guides in various languages, braille, ramps, automatic doors, and disabled toilets to ensure everyone can engage with our offerings. The lift includes a mirror to aid reversing for wheelchair users, and seating is available throughout the exhibition. Guide dogs are welcome.
