The Global Meaningful Travel Map
House of Melissa Boutique Farmstay
OUR EXPERIENCES
The Unexpected Group runs the award-winning Sundowner Nature Experience Centre, also on the Meaningful Travel Map. We run educational nature- and food-based experiences, all designed to bring people closer to nature and the provenance of food. We also practice conservation through our honeybee rescue programme.
"House of Melissa" is The Unexpected Group's latest offering: a boutique farmstay in Singapore -- itself a rare thing in our urbanised country.
ABOUT US
Think of The Sundowner (3000 sqft), but now on a supersized scale (10,000 sq ft). We provide people living on this small island the chance to learn about Permaculture, and connect with animals such as bees and chickens and learn their role in ecology. And being by the sea, the chance to kayak or boat down a mangrove to understand the role this ecosystem plays in carbon capture and shoreline protection.
OUR IMPACT
With so much more land space than The Sundowner, we can keep many more rescued bee hives. This will aid pollination within a 1 - 2km radius. We can now also host larger groups, meaning more chance to spread the word on nature conservation. We also gather kitchen waste from the surrounding neighbourhood and restaurant, turning it into rich compost which feeds our permaculture food forest. Lastly, being right by the sea, our mangrove tours allow participants to do a mangrove clean up, to help heal nature.
