Stone Soup PDX

This Portland-based nonprofit offers culinary training and workforce development, empowering at-risk individuals while serving meals to those in need.

OUR EXPERIENCES
Stone Soup PDX is a non-profit foodservice training enterprise based in Portland, OR , providing workforce development & hands-on culinary expertise to people at risk of houselessness. Our program provides individuals who are at risk of houselessness hands-on culinary experience through a 12-week training program, where they learn WISE courses. WISE courses contain topics such as; resume & cover letter writing, working as a team, SMART goals, and much more! In addition to this, they also learn valuable culinary skills in small groups (individual one on one help can also be done!) Our students also learn customer service skills, where we guarantee to our customers whether they are picking up a To Go meal or having an office catered. At the end of the 12 weeks, they enter our job placement network – a two-week externship with our community partners. We strive to keep in good contact with our alumni, as they can help our current students with any barriers and serve as a mentor to them.

ABOUT US
Stone Soup is a nonprofit restaurant training people who are at risk of homelessness or have other barriers to employment for careers in the foodservice industry. We do this through a 14-week training program focusing on both technical skills required to function in this type of work as well as interpersonal skills needed to get and keep jobs.

OUR IMPACT
In addition to our employment training program, Stone Soup is a Social Enterprise with a mission of feeding food insecure people. We do this by providing meals to shelters and other residential facilities. By providing these meals, we are supporting populations which include people who may one day be a part of our training program.
