Saiyuen

Experience adventure and education in a sustainable outdoor playground, featuring camping, team-building, and cultural workshops on Cheung Chau.

OUR EXPERIENCES
Our aim is to be a place where people can spend quality time together. We do this by providing educational programming, adventure facilities, and tented accommodations at our camping and adventure park. We are a place where friends can swap stories over the campfire, families can learn about wilderness survival together, classmates can challenge each other on the canopy walk, and colleagues can learn to work better together through our coach-led team-building exercises.

ABOUT US
Saiyuen’s mission is to be the leading outdoor adventure playground in Hong Kong. We provide educational content in a fun environment and hope to make learning about nature and the outdoors accessible. We aim to provide quality outdoor experiences while maintaining the authenticity of Cheung Chau.

OUR IMPACT
At Saiyuen, sustainability, community, and cultural preservation are at the heart of everything we do. Located on Cheung Chau, we employ a staff of around 30—two-thirds of whom are local residents—and actively support the island’s economy through partnerships with small businesses such as restaurants, tea shops, bike rentals, and bookstores. We are proud to be the only privately owned campsite licensed by the Hong Kong Home Affairs Department, operating to rigorous safety and legal standards, including HK$50 million in third-party liability coverage. Our commitment to community extends to sponsoring local events like the Cheung Chau Bun Festival and supporting local creatives, from mural projects involving island children to the publication of Cheung Chau Tells, a bilingual book sharing stories of the island’s people.

Sustainability is embedded in our design and daily operations. Our farm features Hong Kong’s largest certified organic aquaponics pond, irrigated with untreated well water that also helps reduce treated water usage. We harness solar and wind energy to support our facilities, and use energy-efficient heat pumps for showers. Many of our buildings are made from locally sourced granite or repurposed structures from the site’s former life as a pig farm. Cultural and environmental education is a key focus, with programming that includes hands-on workshops in local cuisine, scavenger hunts involving historic boundary stones, and farm-to-fork day camps. We also collaborate with universities on research projects—from biodiversity surveys and sustainable architecture using oyster shells to veterinary studies involving our goats—creating a living lab where visitors and students alike can learn about sustainability, community resilience, and Hong Kong’s rural heritage.
