Walkers Reserve
OUR EXPERIENCES
We are the largest ecotourism destination in Barbados with transformative experiences that foster deep connections with nature while ensuring enjoyment for all. Explore Walkers Reserve in various ways, such as our Coastal Nature Walk, Tropical Driving Adventure, Soil to Sea Hike, Bird Watching Experience and Bajan Bee adventures.
ABOUT US
Walkers Reserve is located on the East Coast of Barbados within the Scotland District and National Park of the island. Once a sand quarry, the Reserve is being transformed into Barbados’ largest ecotourism destination while functioning as a living laboratory and model for environmental regeneration and climate resilience. At our Reserve, we educate youth and community about the importance of the environment, all while supporting people and planet. Coastal Dune Forests, beachlands, orchards, ponds and estuaries are just some of the fascinating habitats you will experience on this regenerative reserve.
OUR IMPACT
Our efforts to convert degraded land into a thriving centre of biodiversity and conservation have not only revitalised the landscape but has also had a profound effect on the local economy. Employment opportunities have been generated for over 80% of the surrounding community, providing individuals with valuable experience and expertise in various aspects of Regenerative Agriculture and Ecotourism. Through passive restoration efforts, more than 8 hectares of mangroves have been successfully restored within the Long Pond Estuary, a portion of which intersects with the Reserve. Walkers Beach boasts the largest remaining dune habitat in Barbados and serves as the primary nesting site for Leatherback turtles on the island. Additionally, our “One Tree for Every Bajan” initiative, established in 2018, has planted more than 130,000 plants, including various fruit-bearing trees and 20 km of vetiver grass, which is crucial for soil stabilisation.
