Discover the largest Roman fort north of Hadrian's Wall, featuring immersive experiences, guided tours, and a significant collection of Roman artifacts.

OUR EXPERIENCES
We are a small non-profit museum showcasing the story of Roman Scotland and offering numerous bespoke experiences for groups, including museum tours, object handling, guided walks, workshops, expert-led lectures, and our upcoming VR immersive experience. We welcome independent travellers as well as small to medium-sized groups. We also offer many volunteering opportunities to the local community and internationally online.

ABOUT US
Trimontium is the largest fort north of Hadrian's Wall. We are the only museum dedicated to Roman Scotland, housing one of the most significant collections of Roman artefacts in north Britain. The Trimontium Trust was established 30 years ago in Melrose to save the site of the Roman fort of Trimontium from destruction. Since then, the Trust has been dedicated to the preservation of the site, exploring the story of the Romans in Scotland, their relationship with the native Iron Age population, and the legacy they left behind. One of our main focuses at the museum is commitment to inclusivity and accessibility while offering memorable and educational experiences to individuals from all walks of life. We have also been awarded as a 5-star Visitor Attraction by Visit Scotland and the winner of a Thistle Award for Best Visitor Attraction in the Scottish Borders, 2023.

OUR IMPACT
Focusing on public engagement, inclusion, and accessibility, we are dedicated to providing transformational and immersive experiences, connecting people to the archeological site, the museum, and this fascinating heritage. Part of the Trimontium Trust’s mission is to provide transformational experiences, educational resources, and volunteering opportunities that are accessible and inclusive, ultimately connecting people to the archaeological site and the museum in particular, and to the fascinating heritage of Roman Scotland in a larger sense. We aim to be a community hub, offering a wide range of activities for visitors, members, and volunteers of all ages, fostering innovation, creativity, curiosity, collaboration, integrity, and transparency in our activities. Our museum currently offers a large range of inclusive and accessible options for various audiences and is engaged in new major accessibility projects including our Digital Romans Project and partnership with the non-profit organization UPMO for adults living with autism and learning disabilities.
