OUR EXPERIENCES
Barnahown offers accommodation and bespoke food, outdoor and cultural events in a carefully restored mid-1800s Irish farmhouse. Operating with a low-impact environmental ethos, Barnahown provides visitors with the chance to immerse themselves in the local community through food and beverage, meet the maker and outdoor wellness events.

ABOUT US
Barnahown is nestled in the heart of Georgian Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, at the foot of the Galtee Mountains—Ireland's highest inland range. Located in 'The Golden Vale,' renowned for its exceptional farming and food production, Barnahown introduces guests to local producers through bespoke pop-up food events and curated wellness experiences in collaboration with artisans and tour guides. As part of Ireland's Hidden Heartlands, this lesser-known gem offers a concierge service to help visitors explore award-winning producers and stunning landscapes in a sustainable way that supports the local community, environment, and economy.

OUR IMPACT
Barnahown was restored in 2023/24 by local artisans using traditional techniques to preserve its historic character. It now operates sustainably with solar power, rainwater harvesting, zero single-use items, native planting, and EV chargers.

Located in Mitchelstown and the Galtee/Ballyhoura region, Barnahown offers bed and breakfast accommodation and serves as a nonprofit venue for emerging chefs, artists, and makers, fostering immersive guest experiences.

Owned by Mitchelstown native Ciara O'Brien, Barnahown welcomes guests from all backgrounds, sharing Irish traditions and history. Fully wheelchair accessible, it aims to become one of Ireland’s most inclusive hospitality venues by 2025/26.

A site of historical significance, Barnahown has been carefully restored to its original features and actively contributes to preserving the facade of the nearby Famine Workhouse.
