The Tingana Ecological Reserve is a natural refuge is home to a large number of mammals, birds, fish, and a variety of endemic flora. In addition, local residents actively participate in protection and conservation initiatives, helping to preserve this invaluable natural treasure for future generations.

ABOUT US
Our organization, founded by seven families, replaced hunting and logging with ecotourism to protect Peru’s highest wetlands. This biodiverse paradise shelters numerous bird and primate species, including endangered ones. Local communities actively conserve and share this unique ecosystem, fostering research, nature observation, and global awareness of its ecological importance.

OUR IMPACT
Tingana stands as a powerful example of conservation and community transformation. Its residents replaced hunting and farming with ecotourism, promoting forest protection through sustainable, responsible practices within the Reserve. Since 2004, the community has safeguarded this natural haven and shared its breathtaking beauty with visitors, fostering awareness about environmental care and biodiversity preservation. The area’s main attraction—the aguajales and renacales, endemic wetland tree species—symbolizes the region’s rich ecological value. Guided by experience and respect for nature, each community member contributes to the Reserve’s protection, ensuring that its resources are used wisely and sustainably. Through ecotourism, Tingana has not only preserved its environment but also created a model for inclusive, long-term territorial development. Their ongoing commitment demonstrates how local communities can balance conservation, education, and livelihood, inspiring others to value and protect the natural heritage that sustains us all.
