The Market Place Restaurant is the original farm-to-table restaurant in Asheville, and is recognized for our commitment to our community and to sourcing local ingredients from our local farms and artisans. We have been recognized by the James Beard Foundation with award nominations for Outstanding Restaurant in America and Outstanding Chef in America for our commitment to delicious food and warm, gracious hospitality.

ABOUT US
The Market Place Restaurant started in 1979 as the original farm-to-table restaurant in Asheville, and is known for seasonal menus and local sourcing. We are considered one of the "greenest" restaurants in America from our zero-waste kitchen to our thermal solar panels that heats our hot water. Our Chef & Owner, William Dissen, was recognized as "The Most Sustainable Chef on the Planet".

OUR IMPACT
We work closely with organizations like the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project, the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch Program, and the James Beard Foundation's Impact Programs to help better our food system. Our Chef & Owner, William Dissen, is a champion for sustainable food systems and is regularly on Capitol Hill lobbying for better food system policies. Our restaurant is considered one of the "Greenest" in America with reused, salvaged, materials recrafted by local artisans for table tops, and structure. Our HVAC and refrigeration is all water-cooled, and we heat our hot water through thermal solar panels on our roof.

When are you open?
Currently we are open Tuesday - Saturday 5 - 9pm. (we are looking to reopen 7 days a week next Spring 2026 post-Hurricane Helene)

What accommodations do you make for people living with disabilities?
We are ADA approved and have large dining rooms for easy accommodations. We are also able to tailor menus as needed.
