The Scottish Crannog Centre

The Scottish Crannog Centre

Explore a unique open-air museum showcasing 2500-year-old artifacts and a reconstructed Iron Age village, offering hands-on crafts and a welcoming atmosphere.

OUR EXPERIENCES
Each visit to the Scottish Crannog Centre includes a tour of the museum exhibition - our collection of 2500 year old objects holds some of the oldest and rarest evidence for daily life in Iron Age Scotland. The tour continues into a reconstructed iron age village, where visitors can engage with craft, make pottery, textile, woodworking, storytelling, and more, surrounded by structures inspired by life 2500 years ago. We have a cafe for lunch and are dog friendly.

ABOUT US
The Scottish Crannog Centre is an open-air museum in Perthshire with a mission to care for and make accessible the finds of Scottish Crannog dwellers for the benefit, enjoyment, education and inspiration of all. We believe the best way to connect to these Crannog communities of the past is to be the Crannog Community of today, demonstrating how the crannog dwellers stories are a defining thread in the fabric of Scotland's rich heritage with local, regional, national and international impact, and maximising the social and economic impact of our work, playing our part in tackling the climate emergency.

OUR IMPACT
We pride ourselves on being welcoming, a place for anyone to contribute and learn. We are a Disability Confident Leader, playing an advisory role for other museums to gain their Disability Confidence accreditation. We hold the Young Persons Guarantee and are a Fair Work Employer. We currently employ four apprentices, three of whom have additional support needs, where their apprenticeships are individually tailored with personal mentors to ensure they develop, grow and thrive. We deliver bespoke, spoken tours, that are accessible and adapted to suit the needs of each group. We can assess the group needs and tailor the delivery based on the age, interests, styles of learning, additional needs, and individual conversations. We offer a unique form of personalised customer service and accessibility - not only physical access requirements but all accessibility needs. This approach to shared learning creates an environment where our team can also develop their skills and expand their knowledge. Through this ecology, The Scottish Crannog Centre Trust have created a community of best practice. With four strategic partners - with local, regional, national and international reach - we constantly review and learn from the work we do together, and then apply this to support our community and work with universities. We are creating a space where people can celebrate who they are, expand their knowledge, be visible, have agency, and constantly evolve their passion.
