ABOUT US
Awelani Lodge is a community-owned tourism venture offering 3-star accommodation and cultural nature-based experiences just 10 km from Kruger National Park’s Pafuri Gate. The lodge is owned by four local beneficiary communities, who are also shareholders in the operating company, ensuring they benefit directly from tourism revenue. Professionally managed by TFPD, Awelani supports sustainable development by creating jobs, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting responsible travel in Limpopo’s far north.
OUR IMPACT
Awelani Lodge generates real, lasting impact through a community-owned and community-benefiting model rooted in inclusive governance. Governance/Business Model: The lodge is owned by four local communities, who are shareholders in the operating company, with oversight provided by the Awelani Community Trust—a 12-member board (three representatives from each community) that ensures transparent benefit-sharing and ongoing community support. Social/Cultural & Community Impact: Awelani creates employment, develops local skills, and provides a platform for cultural expression, including traditional Venda storytelling and crafts. Environmental: Located on a community conservancy, the lodge helps protect ancient baobab forests and archaeological rock art sites while promoting responsible tourism in a fragile ecosystem. Education & Awareness: Through guided nature walks, heritage site interpretation, and cultural engagement, guests gain insight into the region’s biodiversity and rich cultural traditions. This model delivers direct, measurable benefits to the communities while conserving both culture and environment in northern Limpopo.
