The Global Meaningful Travel Map
SEED
OUR EXPERIENCES
Seed to Table is a community-based tourism experience and social enterprise. Based at SEED's Rocklands Resilience Hub in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town;the project invites visitors into a vibrant permaculture demonstration site where they explore abundant food gardens, food forests, eco-buildings, and appropriate technologies adapted to sandy soils and strong coastal winds. Guests gain hands-on learning and insights into urban farming, resilience, and sustainability;before sharing a seasonal, vegetarian home-cooked meal from Marley’s Kitchen, a SEED alumni-run enterprise using organic produce straight from the garden. In addition to tours, travellers can also volunteer in the gardens and become immersed in the daily rhythms of regenerative urban farming.
ABOUT US
SEED is a Cape Town based non-profit with 25 years of experience in resilience education, food security, and youth empowerment. From our Rocklands Resilience Hub in Mitchells Plain, we run outdoor classroom's, youth training, and community gardening programmes that connect schools, families, and local entrepreneurs to sustainable livelihoods in the green economy.
Vision:
Young people create just, healthy and sustainable communities and contribute to thriving ecosystems.
Mission:
SEED inspires, equips and supports youth and communities to build better futures for themselves by cultivating sustainable initiatives, growing food, and contributing to the green economy.
OUR IMPACT
SEED has a 25-year track record of building resilience in schools, communities, and youth across Mitchells Plain and Cape Town. Operating with a lean, transparent non-profit governance model, SEED combines enterprise initiatives like SEED to Table and alumni-run ventures such as Marley’s Kitchen to create a sustainable model that generates income while funding education, youth training, and community programmes.
By working with schools as community anchors, SEED fosters local cohesion, empowers unemployed youth to enter the green economy, and supports alumni in launching micro-enterprises. Over 1,900 youth have completed resilience training—up to 70% transitioning into green jobs or self-employment—while more than 34,000 learners have engaged in the Outdoor Classroom programme. SEED’s demonstration gardens, food forests, and eco-technologies transform under-resourced school grounds into thriving green spaces that support feeding schemes and local markets, while restoring biodiversity. Through hands-on education, tours, and volunteering, SEED promotes food sovereignty, sustainability, and the power of regenerative urban development.
