The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Zapotal
OUR EXPERIENCES
Zapotal offers a unique rural community tourism experience, providing accommodation, tours, and a restaurant. Immerse yourself in an authentic 100% local life experience in a rural community where you can enjoy hikes through a pristine cloud forest, educational tours on an integrated farm with an 80-year-old sugar mill, cooking classes featuring organic products, and trekking towards our majestic waterfall.
We also extend opportunities for community involvement, contributing to the development of the village through projects like schools, sports facilities, path labeling, trail cleaning, and work on the organic farm. Join us in cultivating organic farms and working on the Alberto Manuel Brenes Reserve, designing and creating new trails.
ABOUT US
Zapotal is home to a population of 100 residents and is situated at the confluence of the provinces of Alajuela and Puntarenas, in the cantons of San Ramón and Montes de Oro, respectively. Known for its deep-rooted tradition in dairy farming, which serves as the primary livelihood for this picturesque community, Zapotal proudly showcases its products at the local farmers' market. This gives a genuine character to the everyday life of the area.
OUR IMPACT
Our social impact is focused on providing direct and indirect employment opportunities to the majority of our community members and supporting small entrepreneurs. Through our ecotourism initiatives, we aim to ensure that nature remains untouched by negative impacts.
