Slow Food Lake Tahoe

Slow Food Lake Tahoe

Experience sustainable gardening and community engagement in Truckee, California, with hands-on activities and educational programs focused on local food.

OUR EXPERIENCES
Connect our community to the enjoyment of good, clean and fair food by inspiring a self-reliant food culture. We educate the community about growing, preparing and accessing local and sustainable food. Good, clean and fair food for all. Some of the projects that groups can work on are planting, harvesting, garden education (soil, irrigation, co-planting, pest control, organic gardening), bed building, and construction.

ABOUT US
We are a small non profit located in the mountain town of Truckee, California. We run a Food Bank Garden that grows and donates all of its produce to a local food pantry. We also run a community garden to allow people in our community to take growing food into their own hands, learn from those around them, and experience high elevation gardening. Slow Food Lake Tahoe also partners with other organizations to run the Grow Your Own Series, a five part class centered around what grows best in high elevations. We offer volunteer opportunities in our gardens.

OUR IMPACT
We donate around 400lbs of locally grown produce to community members facing food insecurity every year. We also collect compost and turn it into soil, minimizing the food waste that our town of Truckee produces. Slow Food Lake Tahoe is also helping lead the local food and education movement in our area. We run garden classes for local schools and camps, the Grow Your Own Series, and much more!
