ABOUT US
Wayei Safaris is a social enterprise and community-owned business committed to promoting Yei Indigenous knowledge of fauna and flora through ecotourism and conservation. Our work centers on sharing Botswana’s wildlife and cultural richness while strengthening local livelihoods and safeguarding heritage.
We operate through Indigenous partnerships and voluntary stewardship within private protected areas, working alongside local communities to promote environmental responsibility, reduce human–wildlife conflict, and ensure that conservation supports long-term community resilience.
IMPACT
Wayei Safaris integrates environmental conservation and community economic development through ecotourism rooted in Indigenous stewardship. Working alongside local Yei communities, the organization supports voluntary stewardship in private protected areas and engages residents in conservation activities that reduce human–wildlife conflict and strengthen habitat protection.
Conservation efforts include removal of unused fencing, clearing invasive species to manage bush encroachment, soil erosion control, land restoration, tree planting campaigns, snare patrols, fence monitoring, and wildlife management support. Future initiatives include building and repairing waterholes to ensure wildlife access during dry seasons.
Volunteer participation is community-supervised and collaborative. Activities support habitat restoration, research assistance, and education programs, with volunteers working as co-partners under local leadership. This approach ensures that tourism and volunteer involvement strengthen local capacity rather than displace local labor.
Through conservation-focused guiding and cultural education, travelers leave with increased awareness of sustainable practices and the importance of Indigenous knowledge in protecting Botswana’s ecosystems.
