The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Iwokrama River Lodge
OUR EXPERIENCES
The The Iwokrama Forest is Guyana’s top destination for eco-tourism, providing exceptional ecosystem services, including easy access to wildlife sightings and general nature experiences through our customised and package tours, sumptuous local cuisine and beverages, waterfront cabin accommodation, and inbound transportation.
ABOUT US
Our mission is to promote the conservation and the sustainable and equitable use of tropical rainforests in a manner that will lead to lasting ecological, economic, and social benefits to the people of Guyana and the world in general, by undertaking research, training, and the development and dissemination of technologies.
OUR IMPACT
Iwokrama champions a people-centered approach to conservation, combining traditional knowledge with science to sustainably manage forest resources and support local livelihoods. Over 90% of staff come from nearby Indigenous communities - more than half are women - fostering economic development and building local conservation leadership.
Through partnerships with more than 20 Indigenous communities, Iwokrama supports youth engagement via wildlife clubs, many of whose members now serve as community leaders. The 2025 North Rupununi Wildlife Festival brought together over 300 participants from 18 clubs, showcasing the Lodge's deep and lasting impact on both people and nature.
