ABOUT US
An initiative by rewilding charity, Trees for Life, the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre is the first of its kind in the world. The centre celebrates the close connections between people and nature and is a gateway to Dundreggan's unique landscape rich in natural and cultural heritage. Trees for Life have been rewilding the Dundreggan estate since 2008, where important fragments of Scotland's Caledonian forest are now expanding and flourishing. Wildlife is returning, natural ecosystems are thriving, and more people are exploring a landscape rich with biodiversity and opportunity. Visitors to the Rewilding Centre can explore ancient pinewood, see rewilding in action, discover centuries of Gaelic culture and immerse themselves in nature with fun activities, special events and residential experiences. They can also enjoy lunch in our cosy cafe, spend the night in our brand-new accommodation and connect with this incredible landscape undergoing transformation through rewilding. Facilities at the Rewilding Centre include a footpath network, accessible outdoor play area, classrooms, a large multi-purpose presentation and event space, a cafe offering delicious meals and light snacks using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and an accommodation building for up to 40 people. We hope the Rewilding Centre will inspire people to explore and engage with Scotland's wild places and that by offering experiences that bring people and nature together, we can help visitors to connect with the landscape and encourage them to play their own part in protecting the natural world.

OUR IMPACT
The Dundreggan Rewilding Centre is an initiative by the charity Trees for Life, who have been rewilding the Scottish Highlands for more than 30 years to restore the biodiversity and wildlife of Scotland's Caledonian forest. The centre allows more people of all ages and abilities to access nature and connect with this rewilded landscape brimming with natural and cultural heritage. Visitors are encouraged to learn more about rewilding, climate change, Gaelic culture and the environment. At Dundreggan, we want nature to be accessible to everyone. The Rewilding Centre is a free-to-enter, single-level building with fully accessible facilities including automatic external doors, accessible toilets, accessible parking spaces, a ramp entrance and an accessible footpath. Most of the staff working at the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre are local people living within a 20-mile radius of Dundreggan. The local community were consulted throughout all stages of the project and their views informed our planning, especially around the inclusion of Gaelic and meeting the aims of the local community action plan by providing jobs and leisure facilities. We also hope that local businesses will benefit from more visitors to the area and the encouragement of slow tourism. Sustainability was a fundamental part of the design and build of the Rewilding Centre to ensure a low carbon visitor centre. An integrated renewable energy system was installed including air source heat pumps, solar heating and electric vehicle charging points, and existing buildings on the estate were retrofitted with energy efficient measure.
