Gunnebo Slott & Trädgårdar
OUR EXPERIENCES
Gunnebo house and gardens is a historic site that offers a unique insight into swedish culture and architecture from the 18th century. Rooted in history, Gunnebo works to remain accessible for future generations.
ABOUT US
Our Vision: We learn from history to build a better future—where nature and culture come together to enrich every visitor.
Gunnebo House and Gardens was originally built in the 1700s as a summer villa for merchant John Hall and his family. Designed by Gothenburg’s city architect Carl Wilhelm Carlberg, it’s considered one of Scandinavia’s finest 18th-century estates. Today, Gunnebo is a vibrant cultural landmark open daily, year-round, offering guided tours, events, a shop, a restaurant, and a working farm.
Step into history with guided tours of the house and gardens, available throughout the year. Tours in English or German can be pre-booked for groups. The gardens are always open to visitors, and tour schedules are available on the Gunnebo website.
Taste history at Gunnebo Restaurant and Café, where dishes are made using seasonal ingredients from the KRAV-certified kitchen garden just steps away. The on-site bakery uses only organic, KRAV-labeled ingredients, serving fresh bread and pastries. The café and restaurant are proud members of Taste of West Sweden, offering a true farm-to-table experience in a unique 18th-century setting.
Take a piece of Gunnebo home with you from the boutique, featuring locally crafted gifts, garden items, and treats from the bakery—perfect for anyone who wants a lasting memory of their visit.

At Gunnebo Castle and Gardens, we aim to make everyone feel welcome. As a historic site, some modern accessibility features are limited, but with assistance, guests can access the castle’s grand floor, shop, café, and wagon house. Permanent ramps serve the café and wings, and staff can provide temporary ramps for the castle. Paths are covered with fine gravel for smoother mobility, and accessible toilets with braille signage are available in the café, restaurant, and south wing (for groups and events). Wedges help with thresholds in most buildings. Gunnebo is part of Sweden’s official Accessibility Database (TD). We have 280 parking spaces, including 3 designated for guests with disabilities, about 100 meters from the café. Guide dogs are allowed in the shop and designated dining areas but not inside the castle. The south wing has hearing support, and we use fragrance-free products to accommodate scent sensitivities. Please contact us ahead of your visit so we can help make your experience as comfortable as possible.
