St Mary's Guildhall

St Mary's Guildhall

Discover Coventry’s medieval gem—St Mary’s Guildhall—where inclusive heritage, sustainability, and community pride come alive.

OUR EXPERIENCES
Explore St Mary’s Guildhall, a beautifully restored, multi award-winning historic building in the heart of Coventry. Reopened in 2022, it’s one of the few medieval buildings to have survived both the English Civil War and the Blitz. Over the centuries, it’s been home to fascinating stories — from hosting kings and the crown jewels to holding Mary Queen of Scots and welcoming writers like George Eliot and Shakespeare. Recognised nationally with several honours, including a Bronze Award for Best International Visitor Attraction from Visit England (2025), it offers self-guided digital tours, costumed guided tours, and hands-on activities. Afterwards, unwind in our award-winning restaurant, perfect for a relaxing lunch or afternoon tea.

ABOUT US
To become a nationally recognised visitor attraction and a cornerstone for heritage in the cultural quarter in Coventry, whilst remaining at the heart of the community.

OUR IMPACT
St Mary’s serves as an inclusive, accessible visitor attraction that fosters pride and a sense of place within the community while preserving one of Coventry’s most treasured historic sites. With 14% of Coventry’s neighbourhoods ranked among the 10% most deprived in the UK (Index of Multiple Deprivation, 2019), accessibility and inclusivity are central to our mission. We actively engage low-income households, BAME communities, disabled individuals, and people with long-term limiting illnesses through free or discounted entry via the Go CV+ scheme, sensory spaces, and staff mental health training. Our creative programmes and shop uplift local artists, makers, and underrepresented voices, celebrating Coventry’s diverse heritage and strengthening community wellbeing.

We align our work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to ensure a lasting, positive legacy. Environmentally, we promote low-carbon travel through easy access by foot, public transport, and nearby EV charging. We send zero waste to landfill, use FSC-certified materials, and partner with ISO14001 printers participating in Woodland Trust’s Carbon Capture scheme. We also source responsibly and support UK reforestation projects to offset our footprint. Through these efforts, St Mary’s sustains both heritage and community, inspiring visitors to connect with Coventry’s past and contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable future.
