The Yan at Broadrayne Ltd
OUR EXPERIENCES
Nestled on our family’s 17th-century sheep farm in the heart of Grasmere, The Yan at Broadrayne offers boutique rooms, self-catered cottages and glamping pods alongside a relaxed bistro celebrating local Lakeland produce. Travellers experience genuine Cumbrian hospitality, from hearty food and warm fires to our hands-on, family-run welcome that feels like home. Our guests don’t just stay in the Lakes; they live it, walking straight from the door into the fells, discovering local makers, and learning about our sustainable farming roots along the way.
ABOUT US
We’re a proudly family-owned, locally-run business rooted in the landscape that shaped us. Our mission is to offer heartfelt hospitality that gives back to our guests, our community, and our environment. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do: from our renewable energy systems, on-site composting and waste reduction initiatives, to sourcing local ingredients and supporting fellow Cumbrian producers. Our small, close-knit team are trained in sustainable practices and passionate about sharing the area’s natural and cultural heritage with every visitor.
Our vision is simple, to run a place where people, planet and local pride work hand-in-hand: preserving the beauty of the Lakes, celebrating its stories, and ensuring that our guests leave lighter on the land and fuller in spirit.
OUR IMPACT
We’ve transformed our family’s 17th-century sheep farm into a sustainable haven that gives back to the land and community around us. As a locally owned business, every decision is made on-site with integrity and care. Environmentally, we’ve cut general waste by over half, switched to renewable energy, phased out single-use plastics, and source over 80% of our menu from within Cumbria. We compost food waste, harvest rainwater, and encourage guests to take responsibility by pre-ordering meals, exploring car-free and treading lightly on the fells. Socially, we champion local makers and hire locally, offering year-round roles with fair pay and training in sustainability. Our team are proud ambassadors for the Lake District, sharing its stories, heritage, and responsible travel tips with guests every day. The result? A place that not only welcomes visitors warmly but actively protects and uplifts the landscape and people who make it special.
